The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has reaffirmed its commitment to safer highways, stronger enforcement and sustained public enlightenment to reduce road crashes in Nigeria.
The Corps Marshal, FRSC, Shehu Mohammed gave the assurance in Lagos at the 10th anniversary lecture of City Business News, saying the Corps would continue to intensify enforcement and advocacy to promote safer road use.
Shehu Mohammed was represented by Assistant Corps Marshal, Mathew Olonisaye, Zonal Commanding Officer, Lagos Zonal Headquarters, FRSC, said collaboration among agencies, operators and road users remained essential to achieving safer roads.
“The joy of FRSC is when we do not record loss of lives on our highways,” he said.
Mohammed said no single agency could achieve road safety alone, stressing the need for partnership among stakeholders.
“Partners will work with responsible organisations to achieve safety objectives,” he said.
He added that the FRSC would sustain public enlightenment campaigns to promote responsible driving, alongside enforcement to ensure compliance with traffic rules.
President of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT), Boboye Oyeyemi, backed stronger enforcement, noting that logistics efficiency depends on safe road systems.
He said road transport dominates freight movement in Nigeria and requires strict safety standards.
Other stakeholders present at the event commended the FRSC’s safety campaigns, saying they had helped improve road user behaviour and supported business continuity.
The anniversary lecture brought together transport regulators, logistics operators and industry stakeholders.
Participants agreed that road safety remains critical to efficient logistics and national economic developmentnan.
