The Lagos State Government has taken delivery of 20 additional high-capacity Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses under the Presidential Initiative on CNG and Electric Vehicle (EV) Buses.

The state government said the delivery is a major boost to public transportation capacity and its drive towards cleaner energy.

Speaking at the handover ceremony in Lagos, the Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, said the new buses would improve commuting in the state by offering greater capacity, enhanced comfort and cleaner journeys for residents.Osiyemi said the intervention goes beyond the supply of buses, describing it as an opportunity to build a cleaner, smarter and more sustainable transportation system for Lagos.

According to him, the deployment of high-capacity buses will enable the movement of more commuters with fewer vehicles, thereby reducing waiting time on supported routes.The Commissioner thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the initiative, noting that it aligns with the state government’s broader investment in an integrated multimodal transport system covering Bus Rapid Transit (BRT), rail and waterways.

He called for sustained support from the Federal Government in the provision of more CNG buses and the infrastructure needed for their efficient operation and maintenance.

Osiyemi also urged private sector investors to take advantage of emerging opportunities in fleet financing, vehicle leasing, CNG infrastructure, EV charging, maintenance, technology, ticketing and fleet management.

He reaffirmed the commitment of the Lagos State Government to work with the Federal Government, operators, investors and other stakeholders to build a public transportation system that is efficient, sustainable and environmentally responsible.
