… Urges FG to Prioritize Road Infrastructure, Involve Private Sector at JCN @30 Legacy Leadership Lecture

Founder of ABC Transport Plc, Mr. Frank Nneji, who chaired the event and was honoured with the Industry Legacy Leadership Award, has said good roads translate to good business, urging the Federal Government to place greater emphasis on road infrastructure development.

He made the call as Chairman of the Occasion at the 30th Anniversary Legacy Leadership Lecture & Awards of Julie Chi-Nwaoha, marking 30 years of reporting the Transportation sector and 10 years of On The Highway Africa, held on Tuesday in Lagos.

According to Nneji, transportation is a critical driver of economic activity, and efficient road transportation will bring about better business and support economic growth.

He noted that road transportation remains the dominant mode of movement in Nigeria, yet the sector does not receive the level of attention given to the aviation sector.“Statistics show that more than 90 per cent of Nigerians still move by road,” he said, stressing the need for stronger policy attention and investment in the road sector.

Nneji argued that while issues affecting air transport often attract immediate national attention and policy discussions, challenges within the road transport sector, which serves a far larger share of Nigerians, receive comparatively less focus.

He advocated increased private sector involvement in road development, saying concessioning roads can improve quality, maintenance and long-term sustainability.

Speaking on the role of the media, Nneji highlighted the role of the media in shaping public policy and national development, citing past advocacy efforts by transport and business publications that helped draw attention to road infrastructure concerns.

He urged Journalists and media organisations to continue reporting issues that will assist logistics and transportation, saying that sustained public engagement can contribute to policy action and sectoral growth.

In recognition of his outstanding contribution to the growth of road transportation, entrepreneurship and national development, Nneji was conferred with the prestigious Industry Legacy Leadership Award at the event.

He congratulated Julie Chi-Nwaoha, Founder/Publisher of On The Highway Africa, on her 30th Anniversary of reporting the transportation sector, and commended her for her tenacity and consistency in reporting the sector in Nigeria.
