The Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP) Strengthens Bond with National Automotive Design and Development Council ( NADDC ) to boost Automotive Sector

THE BUREAU OF PUBLIC PROCUREMENT (BPP) STRENGHTENS BOND WITH NATIONAL AUTOMOTIVE DESIGNING AND DEVELOPMENT COUNCIL (NADDC) TO BOOST THE AUTOMOTIVE SECTOR

THE Director-General, Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP), Dr. Adebowale A. Adedokun, MCIPS, ACFE, welcomes a delegation from the National Automotive Designing and Development Council (NADDC) in his office here in Abuja. The courtesy visit aims at strengthening an existing collaboration between BPP and NADDC for the advancement of the nation’s automotive sector.

Speaking at the meeting, the Director-General NADDC, Mr. Oluwemimo Joseph Osanipin stated the council’s purpose of transitioning the nation’s automotive assembling processes from Semi Knocked Down (SKD) to Complete Knocked Down (CKD), as a strategic shift to boost local content, increase employment and stimulate economic growth. Mr. Osanipin also made known some of the challenges encountered by the NADDC, which includes high tariffs and limited funding. Hence, he advocated for an increase in government patronage of locally assembled vehicles, implementation of credit schemes, and a review of the 2020 Finance Act to support the industry’s growth.

Dr. Adedokun, in his response, emphasized the importance of transparency, accountability, and integrity in the procurement processes, as he pledges the Bureau’s support for the NADDC initiatives in transforming the automotive sector in Nigeria. The DG further stated that the Bureau is working towards a complete paradigm shift through the digitalization of a list of accredited local vehicle manufacturers. He dissuaded the practice of submission of multiple lists of locally manufactured brands of vehicle to the Bureau, and the act of introducing refurbished vehicles in place of new vehicle; a step to ensure better cordination, transparency and ease of access to stakeholders. Dr. Adedokun reaffirms the Bureau’s commitment to leading by example through the patronage of local contents and assured NADDC of the support of His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR and other Federal Agencies on the shared goal towards developing and strengthening Nigeria’s Automotive sector.
